The Dress

I wanted my dress to be simple. Being a tom-boy, I've never been a fan of lace & frills. I wanted my dress to be appropriate to wear in the temple & I knew I wanted Mom to make it for me. We found a beautiful white qiana fabric (a silky nylon) that is lightweight & flows beautifully.  I let her talk me into a few lace appliqués to dress it up a bit. We chose this Butterick pattern that is flattering to my high-waisted body type...it was perfect & I absolutely LOVED it!

My favorite colors were yellow & baby blue, but I fell in love with this fabric & decided to use it for my bridesmaids dresses. I chose this pattern because I liked the dress. Being new to the church & dress standards, I wasn't aware that it wasn't "modest" until a couple of years later when, as a youth leader, a lesson on "dressing modestly" enlightened me. No one ever said anything to me about my bridesmaids dresses being immodest.

I wore Kiki's dress to my friends wedding the week before mine - I was the guest book attendant.

My mom wanted to make sure all of the dresses looked the same so in addition to my wedding dress, she made every single bridesmaids' dress - all 6 of them! We collected everyone's measurements & I helped her cut out all the pattern pieces. They turned out perfect & I was so happy!
